Did you ever wonder how the authors you love started on their writing journeys?
Well, my author “career” started in our family kitchen when I was four and a half years old. I told my mom I was going to write books, speak to groups of people, and help people who are hurting when I grew up.
But, it took me a while to fulfill that vision.
I had a double major in college: Psychology and English.
And then I went on to get my Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling. I spent most of my adult years as a behaviorist to people with disabilities, consulting to small businesses, providing life-coaching, doing public speaking and leading retreats for groups of moms and women.
I didn’t publish my first book until I was 51 years old. (Incredible, since I’m still 39!) … And that was a non-fiction book called Slow Down Mama: Intentional Living in a Hurried World which is under my real name, Patty H Scott. I then wrote an accompanying devotional and a book on principles for parenting your teens.
When the pandemic hit, I decided to try my hand at fiction. I’d had a character in my brain for about a year at that point, but I didn’t know if I could piece together a whole, cohesive story.
That was the start of the Unforgettable Love Stories series, which was followed quickly by the Calloway Inn series. Both of those are clean romance series and are under Patty H Scott.
By the time I was writing clean romance, I started reading romcom and I had always woven humor into my stories. I decided I wanted to try my hand at romcom, but I was petrified. I didn’t want the virtual experience of standing on a stage while vegetables were lobbed at my head.
I finally took the leap. In December 2021, I published Friendshipped, the first book in the now-well-loved Getting Shipped series.
So, that’s how my journey has gone so far.
And I love writing romcom. Not because it’s trendy, but because I love making you laugh and swoon. I love weaving characters who feel real, and who face deep issues, into stories that grip your heart and make you smile.
I hope you enjoy the Getting Shipped series, and that you join me on this next adventure on Marbella Island for the Love Trippin’ series.
You can start reading with Friend(shipped or try the prequel novella …
